COPYWRITING:
Do you have a lot to say, but you don’t know how to say it? Do people’s eyes start to glaze over when you start talking about your business?
I can help.
I start with a ton of research about your industry. (Probably less than a ton if you were to print it out…but a lot. I start with a lot of research.) After that, we’ll set up a time to talk about how your business fits into that industry. What makes you different? What makes you better? What makes you…you?
And then I write. And write. And write. Tweak (not twerk, don’t worry.) Edit. Adjust. Edit again. Until…it’s perfect. Every word works to bring the reader one step closer to calling you, making a donation, buying your product, or just feeling that much better about your business.
Words tell stories. The right words change stories.
The act or occupation of writing text for the purpose of advertising or other forms of marketing. The product is written content that aims to increase brand awareness and ultimately persuade a person or group to take a particular action. (Thanks, Wikipedia!)
INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE:
Give me your tired unorganized, your poor overwhelming, your huddled masses confused content yearning to breathe free be arranged, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore marketing content. Send these, the homeless complicated, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp cursor beside the golden door.
I can look at your content as a whole, and organize it in a way that your customers can find what they’re after. Together, we’ll tell your story in a logical, organized way, so it’s whelming. (I just made that up…your content won’t be overwhelming or underwhelming. Just…whelming.)
The greatest content in the world isn’t that great if it can’t be found.
Information architecture focuses on organizing and structuring content in an effective way. The goal is to help users find information and complete tasks. (That’s borrowed from usability.gov - with a few Fearon Communications edits.)
STRATEGY + CONSULTING:
This is kind of a catch-all, so let’s break it down.
Strategy: let’s look at your business from an outsider’s perspective and figure out the best way to achieve your communications goals. What’s the best way to get to your potential customers or donors? What do they know about you, and what should they know? How do we roll out your messaging?
Digital Strategy: 01110011 01110100 01110010 01100001 01110100 01100101 01100111 01111001 (yeah…I couldn’t pass up that one.) But really what I mean is the strategy behind how your organization appears online. What information is available? How are contacts moved through the pipeline? Is your online presence a extension of your customer experience?
Software Solutioning and Implementation: let me find the software solution that best fits your business needs and budget: CRM and databases? No problem. Online tools for ticket or product sales? Easy. We will find the right software, get it all set up for your work, and even act as your expert to help you maximize the software’s capabilities.
Consulting is the practice of providing a third party with expertise on a matter. The service may involve either advisory or implementation services.
PARTNERSHIPS:
I can build a mean website (or a nice one.) I can out-wordsmith Mr. Smith himself. I can strategize with the best strategizers.
I can take a decent (but not a great) photo. I can’t design logos; video shooting and editing continue to stymy me. BUT - I know a lot of super-talented people.
Award-winning photographers. Inspiring videographers. Probably the best graphic designer you’ll ever meet. E-commerce and payment processing experts. Fundraising fiends. Programmers. Musicians. Whatever the need, I can reach out to my network to find the very best fit for our project - whether that means coming on board, or just giving us some pointers.
It only takes two to tango. Sometimes it takes more than two to bring a vision to life.
A partnership is an association or relationship between two or more individuals, corporations, trusts, or partnerships that join together to carry on a trade or business. Each partner contributes money, labour, property, or skills to the partnership.
CRISIS COMMUNICATIONS:
Something big going down?
PR nightmares. Misbehaving employees. Sudden funding needs. Privacy breaches. These are some of the situations where we’ve helped to create a strategy, crafted communications, and managed public perception.
It takes a cool head (easy when you have my hairline), a clear thought process, and quick action. Sometimes it takes an outsider (i.e. me) to come in, assess the situation, and devise the plan.
You’ve heard “a lack of planning on your part doesn’t constitute a crisis on my part?” Well, a crisis on your part constitutes some serious planning on my part. Deep breaths. We’ll get through this.
WEBSITES:
Websites are my thing.
I specialize in building on-brand, logically-designed, modern websites for small businesses and non-profits. Am I going to build you the next Facebook or compete with Amazon? Not likely. But I’ll build you an internet presence that builds relationships with your customers and supporters, tells your story, and extends your brand into the online space.
Many of the sites I build are using Squarespace - a popular, modern, user-friendly Content Management System (CMS) and website design platform. This enables you to take over management of the site once it is built, or to leave that work to me. Fearon Communications is a Squarespace Circle Member - meaning that we have built a number of professional sites, and have been recognized by Squarespace for expertise in building sites.

Meet Jay. (You’ll probably like him.) He’s the Director of Everything.
Despite being named 'Most Likely to Become an American Gladiator' at his graduation, Jay's career has taken a decidedly different path.
Instead of spending long hours in the gym, he spends his time working with clients to fully understand their intended messages and turning those messages into communications pieces that work. Instead of battling fierce competitors, Jay battles mediocre content. Instead of becoming a fitness guru, Jay became a grammar snob. His style—rather than 90s big hair—is to work with clients to maximize their communication results.
Jay brings the big-picture thinking that will move your next project—written, video, design, or something else entirely—from good to great.
Thankfully for everyone involved, Jay doesn’t wear American Gladiators spandex. Not often anyway.
Jay lives in Oshawa, Ontario with his wife and three kids. Oh, and the cats.
He can usually be found cooking something (ideally BBQ or donuts), hanging out on the internet (like a communications-obsessed dork), or driving (or washing) his Volkswagen (aka the Voltswagen, or ‘the other obsession’.)
ABOUT FEARON COMMUNICATIONS
Fearon Communications is a boutique communications agency. When I say ‘boutique,’ I’m not meaning that everything is for sale. (because it’s not), but I’m talking about the experience: it’s a small, individualized experience, where I take the time to really get to know my clients, their businesses, and their goals.
We specialize in helping small businesses and non-profits with their communications needs. We offer strategy consulting as well as the implementation of those strategies.
